a.k.a. Sailor's Hornpipe
Historically hornpipes are an English dance form in 3/2 time dating to the early 16th century. However, the distinctive hornpipe rhythm we know today originated in the mid 18th century. Hornpipes are played slower than reels. The following default tempo applies to the MIDI on this page:

  • a quarter note equals180

NOTE: In performance Celtic hornpipes are often played like reels. American hornpipes are almost always played as reels.
